Sky Sports pundit wants Everton to push for Ben Brereton Diaz amid Salomon Rondon news
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Everton still need to sign another forward on deadline day amid developments on all three of the current strikers at the club, says Kevin Campbell.
After starting the season without anyone available up front the club have now signed Neal Maupay from Brighton, who will finally be available for his first involvement in the Merseyside derby on Saturday (3 September), as Salomon Rondon has struggled, and have been repeatedly linked with a late move for Blackburn’s Ben Brereton Diaz.
Sky Sports pundit Campbell expects injured top man Dominic Calvert-Lewin to finally be back in training next week, but believes Venezuelan forward Rondon is free to leave, so would like the Toffees to still land one more goalscoring option before 11pm.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, when asked if a late push for Brereton Diaz was still necessary he said: “I believe Dominic Calvert-Lewin is going to be training Monday or whatever, but you can never have enough forwards. You can never have enough firepower.
“I like the Neal Maupay signing. Very good with his back to goal. Good feet, and he scores goals in bunches. I wouldn’t say he’s prolific, but he’s a handful and he’s a very good player, and he can connect the team.
“So I think that’s a position that Everton aren’t blessed with at striker. I believe Rondon’s been told he can find another club as well so they’re probably going to need another body as well in there.”

Amid infuriating league processes Maupay still hasn’t seen action for Everton, but is now in line to play and should make a big difference to the set up after Anthony Gordon has been forced to shoulder the load up front.
Having Calvert-Lewin back in training is a positive step, but after last season’s travails it won’t be until he is actually back on the pitch and scoring that it can be a proper boost to the team, while Rondon leaving won’t make a huge difference since Frank Lampard seems to have given up on using him already.
The heat around Brereton Diaz has increased hugely in the final days of the transfer window and he feels like he could be the ideal man to add to the rotation, so fans will be watching intently as the hours tick down on Thursday night.
