Frank Leboeuf heaps praise on ‘exceptional’ Alex Iwobi after Everton draw v Liverpool

Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf has heaped praise on midfielder Alex Iwobi for his outstanding performance for Everton against Liverpool.

The Toffees secured a hard-fought draw against the city rivals in the first Merseyside Derby of the 2022-23 campaign on Saturday.

Leboeuf, while talking to ESPN FC, heaped praise on the performance of the 26-year-old, who according to him was “exceptional” on the day.

“I have to say I have to give credit to Everton,” said the 54-year-old. “What I saw from Iwobi in the middle of the park was absolutely exceptional. That guy was replaced in another position but he was still outstanding.”

Great result

Everton entered the contest on Saturday as an underdog as there were hardly any hopes of securing points against one of the title contenders in the league.

However, the fans and pundits were extremely pleased to see the kind of performance the Toffees player put in the Merseyside Derby as the team secured a crucial point while playing at home.

Even though Everton are still waiting to secure their first win in the league competition, the result against Liverpool will give the players, fans and manager Frank Lampard a lot of hope going forward.
