Everton must take note after Mohammed Kudus Man of the Match display v Rangers

Mohammed Kudus put in an electric Man of the Match display for Ajax in their win against Rangers – and Everton should be planning a January swoop after their summer interest.

The 22-year-old Ghanaian forward scored a stunning 32nd minuted goal before notching an assist a minute later in the Eredivisie side’s 4-0 win.

The Independent reported on 1 September, that the Toffees failed with a £15million bid for the forward on deadline day.

However, it was also reported by Telegraaf journalist Mike Verweij (via Twitter, 31 August) that the 22-year-old was refusing to train after seeing his teammates Anthony and Lisandro Martinez secure big-money moves to the Premier League.

A move didn’t materialise this summer, but his performance for Ajax on Wednesday evening (7 September) should put Everton on red alert for a potential January swoop for Kudus.

He is a dynamic forward who constantly moves into pockets of space both in front and behind defenders and looked a threat against Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side all evening.

His performance will have seen some of Europe’s biggest teams take note and Everton must do some groundwork in order to secure his services in January.

With Everton looking to recruit a younger calibre of player under Frank Lampard, Kudus does fit the bill as a player who could develop further whilst at Goodison Park and become an asset for the club.

This move will be hard for the Toffees to complete after his start to the season with his stock set to rise further, particularly with electric performances in the Champions League.

However, considering his desire to move to the Premier League, the Toffees could still have a chance of enticing him to Merseyside in the January window.
