Andros Townsend: Everton star Anthony Gordon has answered ‘can he do it again’ critics
Everton midfielder Andros Townsend has been singing the praises of youngster Anthony Gordon after the 21-year-old’s terrific start to the season.
Gordon nearly left Goodison Park this summer after a rally of late bids from Chelsea, but the starlet stayed put and has shown his class yet again.
Townsend admitted there were questions surrounding Gordon over whether he could “do it again” after last season.
Speaking to talkSPORT, the Everton maestro stated that the Blues have been lucky to keep Gordon at the club and the youngster has proved his doubters wrong.
“He burst onto the scene last year and people ask if can he do it again, can he add goals to his game?” said Townsend.
“He’s got a couple of goals this season, we are very lucky to have kept him in the transfer window.
“We’re happy we’ve got him for another year, hopefully, he can continue to develop and turn into a real top Premier League player.”

Long.
The Anthony Gordon transfer saga is going to be long and drawn out, expect this one to carry on into January and then probably the whole summer.
Chelsea will undoubtedly come knocking for his signature again and it may be hard for the Toffees to turn down another substantial bid.
Gordon’s contributions to Frank Lampard’s team are clear; he has scored six goals and created five big chances in 56 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
But these stats are replaceable and the Everton hierarchy should seriously consider selling if another big-money bid comes their way.
There are plenty of equally talented youngsters out there on the market and whilst it’s a shame to lose a homegrown talent it may be the best option for all parties involved.
It remains to be seen whether or not Gordon will accept a bumper contract from Everton, if not it’s time to cash in whilst we can.
