Anthony Gordon was serious about desire to leave Everton in summer, contract still unsigned
Anthony Gordon’s desire to leave Everton in the summer transfer window was “not just PR”, according to journalist Paul Brown.
The 21-year-old is one of the most highly-rated youngsters in the world of football and has been attracting interest from the likes of Chelsea [Sky Sports].
Talks are in progress between Everton and the players’ camp over a new deal, but as yet nothing has been signed despite the club’s eagerness, raising the possibility that a new transfer saga could yet materialise.

As per Brown, who has been published in Daily Star and other daily newspapers in the UK, the Toffees have been keen to offer a bumper contract to the player for a “long time”.
“Everton have been ready to hand Anthony Gordon a new long-term contract for a long time,” he said while talking to Givemesport. “It was not PR that he was refusing to sign one and it wasn’t just the club telling people that Anthony Gordon was interested in a move to Spurs or Chelsea and that he wouldn’t sign a new contract.”
Way too important
Everton entered the transfer window this season knowing that they might end up losing a key player in the attacking department and that’s exactly what happened when Richarlison ended up joining Tottenham Hotspur.

Once that happened, it became clear that the Toffees would do everything in their power to keep hold of the other important players, especially in the attacking department where they found it hard to replace the Brazil international.
It was because of this manager Frank Lampard ensured that Gordon, who was followed closely by Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, ended up staying at Goodison Park for at least another season.
The fans will be hoping that the club’s hierarchy will be able to persuade the 21-year-old to ensure that he stays at the club for many more years.
Gordon is an Everton academy product and has represented the club in 67 matches across all competitions, where he has managed to score six times and provided eight assists in the process [Transfermarkt].
