Rio Ferdinand: Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford automatic starter for England at World Cup

Rio Ferdinand has picked Everton star Jordan Pickford as the starting goalkeeper for England’s national team in the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

The mega-event this year is set to be played in Qatar from 20 November to 18 December.

The former Manchester United defender, while talking on a Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE YouTube channel, believes that the Toffees goalkeeper is an automatic choice for a spot in the national team in the upcoming World Cup.

“Pickford picks himself,” he said. “He’s never let England down. He’s been in really good form this season. You’ve got to look at his history with England – he’s been brilliant and he’s still playing. He’s a shoo-in in this team.”

Everton had a horrible campaign last year but even then they managed to keep their place in the Premier League for at least another season.

One of the reasons why the Toffees managed to stay up for another term was down to the performances of Pickford who was simply too good in between the sticks, even at a time when the side was conceding goals for fun largely because of defensive problems.

In this season, the 28-year-old has already put in some incredible performances for the team, including the one against Liverpool in the Merseyside Derby where he was the team’s best player on the pitch on 3 September.

However, Pickford has been on the sidelines since that match after suffering an injury which would’ve been a cause of concern for both Everton and England fans, and they will be hoping to see the star man getting back to full fitness as soon as possible.
