Everton ‘cannot lose’ defensive mettle – Frank Lampard
Frank Lampard believes Everton cannot afford to become defensively vulnerable once again.
The Toffees are enjoying a decent start to their new season where they have secured seven points from as many matches in the league competition.
In a column on the club’s official website, the former Chelsea midfielder stated that the players coming in will now have to meet the standard of the ones who are already a part of the playing XI.

“The reality is we’ve now set a standard which means whoever comes into the team has to deliver defensively and make us hard to beat,” he said.
“If you’re hard to beat in this league, you give yourself a chance and we’ve shown that so far this season. That’s something we just cannot lose.”
Important result
Everton entered the campaign hoping to avoid what happened in the previous season where they narrowly managed to escape relegation.
One area where Toffees struggled massively in the previous season where they conceded goals for fun.
It was clear that Lampard was keen to address that issue in the transfer window and that’s what he has done where he made the majority of the signings who were going to contribute to strengthening the defensive side of things.

It is because of this reason the Merseyside club have only conceded six goals in the league campaign this season, joint second-lowest alongside Liverpool, Manchester City and only behind Brighton.
That is in contrast to what happened last season where Everton conceded whopping 66 goals in just 38 matches, fifth-most in the competition [Transfermarkt].
The former Derby manager and the fans will be hoping that the players will be able to continue their momentum and keep producing similar kind of performances in the matches to come.
