Everton must make a move for Brentford goalkeeper David Raya if Jordan Pickford leaves the club

With Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford being eyed up for a move to Manchester United, the Blues should target Brentford shot-stopper, David Raya, should Pickford leave.

There will definitely be fuel to the fire that Erik ten Hag wants to sign Everton’s goalkeeping ace and the club should prepare for the worst with speculation linking him to Old Trafford [Telegraph].

27-year-old Brentford goalkeeper David Raya would be the perfect replacement for Pickford and he holds a savvy stat that proves he can be just as good.

Football’s largest detailed statistics website WhoScored has had its say on Raya and have announced a savvy stat for the Goodison hierarchy to ponder.

The Brentford goalkeeper has the joint most saves in the Premier League so far this season (30), with Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope.

Interestingly, Raya rates ahead of Pickford (26), who has had a terrific start to the campaign for Everton, saving the club from defeat on countless occasions.

Everton

Raya was linked with Everton last October with SER journalist Bruno Alemany reporting that the Blues, as well as Arsenal, have shown an interest in him.

Ready-made Raya.

Brentford are renowned for their sophisticated scouting system and highlighted Raya as a terrific talent after playing against him in goal for Blackburn in 2019.

Raya is equally as good as Pickford with the ball at his feet, if not better and was once described by Jurgen Klopp as a “number 10“.

And it’s this ball-playing style that Everton boss Frank Lampard loves, Raya can provide this for the Blues, in abundance.

Raya would bring a wealth of experience with him to Goodison Park, one that you might not expect from a Spain International hailing from Barcelona.

He’s played in the National League with Southport, League One with Blackburn and the Championship with Brentford; gaining promotion to the Premier League in the process.

It’s this very wealth of experience that makes Raya the ideal candidate to take over from Pickford should he leave Goodison Park for the allure of Old Trafford.

Not to mention his elite performances over the last two campaigns for Brentford.
