Everton defender Conor Coady can play in different formations for England at FIFA World Cup – Phil Jagielka
Phil Jagielka believes Everton defender Conor Coady can play both in the back four and back three for England in the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
There have been talks in the media about the possibility of the 29-year-old’s inclusion in the national team’s squad for the mega-event after recent poor performances defensively.
While talking about the possible options available for Gareth Southgate on Sky Sports on September 28, Jagielka was of the opinion that Coady is well-equipped to be a part of the defensive line in the national team.

“We’ve always said that about Conor [that he is well-equipped to play in back three],” he said. “But then you look at Everton and he’s playing in a back four. He can do both.”
Important player
Everton entered the campaign hoping to improve what they did last season where they narrowly managed to escape relegation.
One of the primary reasons why the Toffees struggled massively in the previous season was because of their defence where the side conceded goals for fun.
It was clear that manager Frank Lampard was keen to bring in players to address that issue and he did exactly that in the recently concluded transfer window.

One of the players he brought in was Coady who has been simply outstanding ever since moving to Goodison Park.
He alongside James Tarkowski has definitely made the Merseyside club look much tougher to beat as the side are amongst the top-five teams with the least goals conceded in the season.
Therefore, it comes as no surprise to see Coady’s name being linked with the national team and by looking at his current performances, it can definitely be concluded that he is amongst the best in the country in his position.
