Everton boss Frank Lampard responds to rumours that he could succeed Gareth Southgate as England boss
Everton boss Frank Lampard has been left bemused by rumours that he could succeed Gareth Southgate as the next boss of the England national team.
Lampard is yet to sign a new contract with the Blues, however, he signed a short-term contract in January keeping him at the club for another two years.
The boss admitted that he still hadn’t had any “contact” with Blues owner Farhad Moshiri, but this is something that he isn’t too concerned about.

Speaking to the Mirror, Lampard had his say on signing a new contract with the Blues and the gossip surrounding his name with Southgate’s England job.
“No, I’ve not had any contact and I am not concerned about it because, this might make you laugh, the last time I was asked about a new contract in a press conference was at Chelsea and I got sacked six weeks later,” said Lampard.
“I don’t like jinxing things. I am not worried about it at the minute. I just want to do my job well. I am enjoying my job and I want to do well. I have seen progress but I know there is a lot of work to do.
“I wouldn’t do that to Gareth. As I’ve just said, Gareth has done a great job. He’s preparing for a World Cup and it’s not in my thinking at all.”

Man management.
Lampard would potentially be a great option for the England manager’s role should Southgate ever leave the job after the World Cup.
Unfortunately for the Blues, he must be one of the main contenders to take the job; his resume and skillset are perfect for it.
Lampard’s man management skills would be ideal for the job, something that Southgate has seemed to lack in recent months in his handling of Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Nevertheless, if Everton can tie him down to a new contract then that could ultimately spell the end of any speculation or attempts the English FA would make.
The Everton bosses’ astute tactics would also go a long way within this England setup, he seems to get the best of the youngsters in the Toffees team, and it’s hard to see past him doing the same for his country.
We’ll have to wait and see on this one, but a poor World Cup showing from Southgate could intensify this gossip.
