Everton and Conor Coady get last laugh as Wolves make major announcement

Everton secured themselves three valuable Premier League points on Saturday afternoon but Wolves did not have the same fortune.

The Wanderers were beaten easily by West Ham United in the division’s late kick-off to leave them slumped in the relegation zone with just six points to their name.

As a result, the club announced via their official Twitter account that manager Bruno Lage had been relieved of his duties at Molineux with immediate effect.

Just a couple of months previously, Lage had decided that Conor Coady could not play in the four-man defence he was hoping to utilise and opted to freeze the then club captain out of the side altogether.

Everton saw this as an opportunity and have poached the England international on loan for the season where he is now flourishing… in a back four.

With the 29-year-old partnered with Burnley stalwart James Tarkowski, Frank Lampard has created now the best defence in the Premier League after Manchester City shipped three to Manchester United in a 6-3 win on Sunday.

Coady will be looking back at the Midlands club with an undeniable grin on his face knowing that his exit has likely contributed to their sudden downfall after impressing at times last season under Lage.

Lampard will be laughing himself to sleep this evening too having effectively robbed Wolves of their leader both on and off the pitch for an absolute steal, even if it ends up as just one year.

There must be many people high up at Molineux who realise how poor this decision by Lage has been but their loss is Everton’s gain and there is not an Evertonian anywhere who is complaining.

Things will have been made worse as Coady netted his first goal for the club on Saturday to help the Toffees beat Southampton on the south coast.
