Reece Welch signs new four-year deal with Everton
Young centre-back Reece Welch has signed a new four-year contract with Everton, the club announced on Tuesday, 04 October.
The 19-year-old is highly-rated after having already made his senior team debut earlier this year and was in the final year of his contract with the club.
In the ongoing campaign, Welch has already played six matches across all competitions including five in the Premier League 2 [Transfermarkt].
One for the future
Everton are one of the few clubs in the country who are famous for nurturing youngsters to become of the best in the business.
The likes of Wayne Rooney and Anthony Gordon are some of the primary examples of the development program at the club.
Over the last few years, it seemed like the Toffees went away from their basics and invested tons of money in signing players who hardly ever produced and eventually ended up leaving.
That policy nearly ended up costing the club their place in top-flight football last season. Ever since Frank Lampard arrived at Goodison Park, there has been a return of the feel-good factor and it is important to capitalise on that and return to the very basics of the club.
Therefore, giving a new long-term contract to a promising player like Welch is a step in the right direction as he is clearly someone who can become a part of the first XI in the near future.
