US-based company open enter Everton takeover talks

Everton have entered preliminary takeover talks with US special purpose acquisition company LAMF Global Ventures Corp, according to Bloomberg UK.

It’s understood that deliberations are ongoing with the US company which is co-led by Hungarian-American businessman George Soros’ nephew Jefferey.

Bloomberg report [5 October] that there’s no certainty that the talks will result in a transaction and that there is a chance that the consortium could pursue a deal for another European club.

Simon Horsman and Soros are said to be leading to a potential takeover deal, with former Everton director Keith Harris acting as a senior advisor.

Wow

There has been plenty of talk regarding Everton’s ownership, with Farhad Moshiri seemingly keen to give up control at Goodison Park.

Everton are one of England’s most historical clubs and have the potential to really push on towards the top end of the Premier League due to the fan base and worldwide exposure. Ultimately, Moshiri’s reign on Merseyside has seen plenty of mistakes made, and the time is right for him to move on.

A fresh approach has been taken on the pitch this summer and it seems like the right time for a new approach to also be taken in the boardroom. With a feel-good factor surrounding the club at the moment, new investment to ease their financial worries would certainly be welcomed.

There have been takeover talks in the past that haven’t quite materialised. The Telegraph reported (15 June) that Peter Kenyon’s consortium had agreed to a period of exclusivity in order to buy the club, however, the deal fell through. There is certainly still a long way to go with LAMF’s purchase of Everton, but this is certainly a story that Evertonians should keep an eye on.
