Everton made summer enquiry for Inter Milan ace Hakan Calhanoglu
Everton attempted to sign Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu in the summer transfer window, according to Calcio Mercato.
The 28-year-old is currently in contract talks with the Italian giants over an extension to his deal after he scored the only goal of the game to see them beat FC Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Calhanoglu, a Turkish international, has just under two years left on his deal at the San Siro and does not currently want to leave the Serie A side.

But that fact has not stopped Everton from trying to bring him to Goodison Park having enquired about his availability over the summer, only to be rejected by Inter.
The Toffees weren’t the only Premier League side to ask about the Turk with both Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United also rejected in their similar approaches prior to the transfer window closing.
Unpredictable
A couple of months ago, this move would have seemed like a very sensible one to make and something that Everton really needed at the time but things have drastically changed on Merseyside now.
The midfield area is well stocked all of a sudden with Alex Iwobi’s transformation leading the way alongside newly-signed duo Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gana Gueye.

It is so stacked that James Garner can’t get a minute at the moment and while Calhanoglu is a different kind of player to the England Under-21 international, he still might not feature all that often under Frank Lampard.
Similar to James Rodriguez, Cahanoglu is the kind of player that drifts in and out of games when he feels like it but can produce a moment of genuine astonishment in the blink of an eye.
But in a league as ferocious as the Premier League, it is perhaps best that he opted to stay in Italy rather than get found out.
