Finance Guru: Never say never to Maciek Kaminski deal to buy Everton

Kieran Maguire has suggested to never say never to Maciek Kaminski’s £400million deal to buy Everton despite the club remaining coy over a potential takeover.

Bloomberg UK reported (5 October) that a new US company LAMF Global Ventures Corp were the latest consortium to show an interest in purchasing the club.

However, it’s been suggested by the Liverpool ECHO’s Joe Thomas (Q&A on the Echo website, 4 October) that Kaminski still holds an interest in purchasing the club.

Football finance expert Maguire has since revealed that the Toffees could well be looking for some investment, with the club potentially needing £500million for the new stadium.

Talking on the Price of Football Podcast, Maguire said [24:00, 6 October]: “Questions were being asked over where Everton were going to get the £500million for their new stadium from, it’s the elephant in the room.

“There’s been talk of a consortium involving Kaminski, who was involved with Peter Kenyon.

“That all appeared to die until the article in the Financial Times last week. The FT has said never say never to the Kaminski deal, with a £400million deal the price that is involved.

“Everton have been very coy and somewhat pushed back, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t looking for some sort of investment.

“If it does take place we could have another American owner and I think they have something different to offer compared to some of the other owners in the Premier League.

Stadium issue

Farhad Moshiri has made it clear that he wants to see the club into their new Bramley Moore Dock home and that could well slow down any potential takeover. A smaller share of the club being purchased would seem to be the most likely scenario at present.

For Evertonians, it’s exciting to see a number of potential buyers show an interest in the club, particularly after the positive steps that have been made both on the pitch and in terms of the footballing structure behind the scenes at the club.

Moshiri has certainly had an up and down time during his tenure on Merseyside and it does feel like a natural conclusion to his time at Goodison Park could well be reached if an adequate buyer is found.

Everton’s history and place in the Premier League mean they’re an extremely attractive proposition. Once the club have moved into their new stadium, the Toffees have the potential to really push on and compete with the top six clubs.
