Mark Lawrenson predicts result of Everton clash with Manchester United

Mark Lawrenson has backed Everton to give Manchester United a game at Goodison Park this week when they meet in the Premier League.

The Toffees are on a seven-game unbeaten run in all competitions and have won their last two in a row, beating West Ham and Southampton, while Manchester United saw their four-game winning run smashed by Man City in a 6-3 defeat last weekend.

But while Lawrenson expects a “hectic” clash between the two sides on Sunday night, he told Paddy Power [7 October] that he is still backing the Red Devils to come away with a victory.

Everton

“Everton had a good result at Southampton but we know what happened with Manchester United against City and Erik ten Hag will have been kicking their a*s all week,” he said.

“I think this will be hectic and the great thing with Everton is that they’ll give anyone a game at home.

“It’s a tough place to go but I’ll go with Man United. Everton 1-2 Manchester United.”

Tough

This game is likely to be the biggest test of the season so far, with Frank Lampard keen to show just how far the team has come under his tutelage as he looks ahead to the January window.

The team already suffered defeat to Chelsea and got a draw with Liverpool at Goodison Park this season, but this is a Manchester United team in good form and at full strength injury-wise so it will be tough for them.

Everton

But this is a team with plenty of grit, determination and momentum behind them and the fans at Goodison this season have been absolutely sensational.

They will be right up for this game under the lights and defensively they’ll be confident of being able to keep out a side that has struggled to break down teams this season, and they know that with pressure they can get something from the game.

The team and fans are all confident of getting a result and if we can prove Lawrenson wrong it would add the cherry on top to a great weekend.
