Sky Sports pundit convinced Conor Coady is at Everton for the long term now, Wolves can forget him

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Conor Coady is going to remain an Everton player because the “ship has sailed” for him to go back to Wolves according to Kevin Campbell.

With Bruno Lage being sacked at Molineux (2 October) there was a danger that the new boss might decide to bring the former captain back, but the Toffees are set on signing the 29-year-old on a permanent deal.

Campbell, a Sky Sports pundit, is convinced that the feeling is mutual with the player who is back in his home city and enjoying himself at Goodison, so whoever takes over at his parent club should write off trying to convince him to return.

On the prospect of the loanee ending up back at Molineux he exclusively told Goodison News: “No I don’t think so. I think with Conor Coady that ship has sailed.

“He’s back on Merseyside, his home city, and he’s playing for Everton. And he’s captain of Everton.

“I think Conor Coady wants the deal done, so whoever comes in, don’t even look at Conor Coady because I think he’s going to be a Blue if I’m honest with you.

“I don’t see a new manager coming in that’s going to change his mind.”

Everton

Coady clearly has admirers back in Wolverhampton, having captained them for so long, with chairman Jeff Shi referring to him as an “outstanding person, on and off the football pitch” in the club statement when he joined Everton.

But it would have been hard on him as a player to have the armband taken off him and be dropped to the bench, and his form since arriving at Goodison has been excellent.

He has already captained his new side, scored his first goal, and is part of the league’s best defence, so there doesn’t look to be any reason why he would want to consider a return and the move the club plans on completing should be easily completed.
