Jim White: Everton sensation Nathan Patterson would get in Liverpool squad
Telegraph journalist Jim White claims Everton right-back Nathan Patterson would get into the Liverpool squad – but only as cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Everton signed Patterson, 20, from Rangers in the January transfer window after agreeing a deal worth up to £16million for the Scotland international [Sky Sports].
Rangers were beaten 7-1 at Ibrox by Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday and Telegraph journalist White claims that none of the current players at the Glasgow club would get in Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

However, White does believe that ex-Gers right-back Patterson would be a first-team player at Anfield after impressing since arriving at Everton.
“Try comparing this week’s Rangers side with Liverpool: in truth there is not a single Rangers player who would get close to Liverpool’s bench,” said White on The Telegraph website on Thursday (13 October).
“And, of their recent squad members, only Nathan Patterson might have had a chance of making it into Anfield as cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold. But he has been sold to Everton.”

He’d start
Alexander-Arnold has had a horrible start to this season.
And while Liverpool fans will regard him as the best right-back the Premier League has ever seen, he’s not the best right-back on Merseyside anymore.
Patterson exploded into a stunning vein of form at Goodison Park this season.
Unfortunately, he’s got an ankle injury now and has missed the last two games – but he’d been superb at right-back for Frank Lampard prior to that setback.
One of his best performances came in the 0-0 draw with Liverpool at Goodison Park while he’d also been instrumental for Scotland before getting stretchered off in their Nations League win over Ukraine in September.
While Alexander-Arnold has way more experience and, admittedly, is a very good right-back on his day. There’s no denying that Patterson has been better than the Liverpool player for both club and country so far this season.
Everton would have other players get into the Liverpool squad based on how things have developed so far this term but we’re just happy to finally see fans having some pride in their players again after a couple of dismal years.
