Tim Sherwood and Leon Osman share Everton relegation verdict after loss v Tottenham

Tim Sherwood and Leon Osman both agree that Everton have a squad that should be fighting for relegation.

The Toffees lost 2-0 against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday (15 October), with both goals coming in the second half.

With this result, Everton now have lost back-to-back Premier League games, but Osman thinks they should be able to find mid-table.

Everton

“At the start of the season, having witnessed how poor they were last season, I was happy to [see them] stay in the Premier League,” said Osman on Premier League Tv production [Saturday, 15 October].

“Now I’m looking for mid table. I am looking for progression.”

Tim Sherwood added: “When you look at that group of players, even the players coming off the bench or those who get back to fitness, they should not be struggling to stay in the Premier League.”

Same problems

After a good phase last month, the Toffees now have lost back-to-back games in the Premier League.

While defeats against big teams won’t be the parameters to judge them, it is still a good indication of how far they’ve progressed since the calamitous last season.

The defeat against the Red Devils at home would have hurt them more, but there is something the club need to work on in the long run. They need to change their mentality.

Everton

Everton have signed some very good players, and they need to express themselves properly.

Under Frank Lampard, the Toffees have a poor record away from home. In fact, that is one of Lampard’s biggest weaknesses, even when he was the manager of Chelsea.

In an attempt to stay compact, Everton completely went into a shell and allowed Spurs to dominate. We witnessed the same thing against Man United.

That should not be the case. It’s Lampard’s job to inject confidence that they were capable of getting a goal away from home and beating any side on their day.
