Everton: Frank Lampard reacts to major Steven Gerrard news in past 24 hours
Everton manager Frank Lampard has reacted to the news that his former England teammate Steven Gerrard was sacked by Aston Villa.
The Villans had suffered a horrid run of form and the club’s owners took the decision to relieve him of his duties after they were beaten 3-0 away at Fulham on Thursday (20 October).
Lampard is under no such pressure at Goodison Park but he did express sympathy with the former Rangers boss in his press conference.
“Obviously I know Stevie, get on well with him & have huge amount of respect for him as a player, a person & a manager,” he said, as quoted by Richard Buxton. “It’s not nice for someone to lose their job… but he’s a very tough lad. I won’t comment more on it.
“We all understand the jeopardy of the job but as a coach in the modern day, you need time & circumstances to work. We all need to try & get results but sometimes time isn’t afforded.”
Ruthless
Gerrard is still very new to his managerial career and it seems like he is a tad naive to the fact that he can be axed that quickly if he is not bringing the result necessary.
He is used to being a player who only ever has a chance of being sacked if they produce a monumental disciplinary problem that rocks the entire club.

There is not that security in management nowadays and considering how poor Villa have been this season, he had it coming to him and it could easily come for Lampard at some point.
He will have been reminded of the pressure on him as a Premier League manager by Aston Villa’s move on Thursday and having overseen three successive defeats, he may start to be worried.
But he does have a lot of credit in the bank already at Everton having steered the club to safety last season and there have been lots of positives this season too.
