Sky Sports pundit wary of £43million-plus Jonathan David for Everton amid strong interest
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Jonathan David can definitely score goals but whether he would be the right man for Everton and “Premier League intensity” is less clear says Kevin Campbell.
The Toffees have been “very interested” in a move for the Canadian international striker, according to Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg (17 October), with a deal reportedly set to cost north of €50million.
Sky Sports pundit Campbell feels that it could be a risky move to spend big on the 22-year-old given that prices well in excess of that number have been mooted over the past year.

“Could look at it, for sure,” he said, speaking exclusively to Goodison News.
“He had a bit of a purple patch a year to 18 months ago but I don’t he’s having a great time at the moment.
“There was talk of £60-70million for him in January.
“Can he score goals? Yes he can. Could he do a job at Everton, with Premier League intensity and so on? Truth of the matter is, I don’t know.”

David appears to be improving his scoring record with each season in Ligue 1, after a fruitful time in Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League.
Nine goals and three assists so far in the French top flight this season, after finding the net 19 times in all competitions in the previous campaign, and 13 the year before, suggest that he is still improving and at his age he is a very attractive option.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the main man if he can stay fit, but goals from elsewhere are less regular, although at the money that is being talked about for David it could require a high-priced exit from Anthony Gordon to make it feasible.
