Everton should use Moise Keane in deal for Weston McKennie

Everton underwent a busy transfer window with Frank Lampard looking to rejuvenate his relegation-threatened squad and it appears the overhaul will continue.

The Toffees have been linked with a move for Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie (Ben Jacobs, 24 October), with the Serie A club happy to sell the 24-year-old for £20million in January.

Despite signing Amadou Onana and James Garner over the summer, the club still look keen to add to the midfield and if the board at Goodison Park are smart, they could use an agreement already in place with Juventus to ensure they top the queue of clubs chasing the midfielder.

It’s understood Leeds, Newcastle and Arsenal are all chasing McKennie, so it’s going to take something special for Everton to add the midfielder to their ranks.

Juventus are set to pay Everton £24million for Moise Keane when his loan deal becomes permanent in Turin (Sky Sports, 1 September) and potentially going back to the negotiating table with Juventus could be a good option for Everton.

Signing McKennie and reducing the fee for the Serie A side to pay for Keane could well be an option for the Toffees to look at if it can give them the jump on the other teams.

It is somewhat surprising to see the Toffees look to add another midfielder to their ranks. At the moment Onana, Idrissa Gana Gueye, James Garner and Alex Iwobi all give Lampard good options in the centre of the park. Most Evertonians would be eager for the club to potentially look at a more forward-thinking player in January.

However, strength in depth in midfield is by no means a bad thing for the Toffees. It will interesting to see if this one develops further.
