Everton boss Frank Lampard may axe Seamus Coleman for Leicester City Premier League clash

Frank Lampard may choose to wield his axe on Seamus Coleman for the Everton v Leicester City Premier League game on Saturday.

The Toffees captain has been second-choice at right-back this season given Nathan Patterson’s resurgence and with him returning to play some minutes off the bench against Fulham on 29 October, there’s a great chance he gets the nod from the start.

Coleman does not quite offer the same attacking threat as Patterson and if the Toffees want to take charge of games and be proactive, that’s a change Lampard has to make.

The Scotland international also completed more passes per 90 minutes from dead ball situations which clearly shows that Lampard sees him as more than just an outfield player. [Fbref]

He also averages 2.05 shot-creating actions in comparison to Coleman’s 0.75 and it’s clear to see who the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Anthony Gordon would like to be playing with.

At 33, Coleman is not the fastest either and it’s time for Lampard to ease him out and play him in the cup games and give him the odd league starts.

Patterson clearly is the future of Everton football club and Lampard is rebuilding this side so he certainly would want players that are going to kick on and be better players in the next couple of years.

Hopefully, the former Rangers defender stays fit as he’s not had the best of luck with injuries recently and deserves a decent run of games to continue improving as we all know what a talented player he is.
