Harry Redknapp names Jordan Pickford and James Tarkowski in Premier League team of the week after Everton draw v Fulham

Harry Redknapp has named Everton duo Jordan Pickford and James Tarkowski in his Premier League team of the week despite claiming they were “lucky” to draw with Fulham.

The Toffees were held to a 0-0 draw at Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon after struggling to create chances, but the defence held firm and produced another excellent performance.

Despite describing the result as “probably lucky”, Redknapp told BetVictor [31 October] that they had the duo of Pickford and Tarkowski to thank for the result.

Everton

“Everton were probably lucky to get a point from Craven Cottage, and they have Jordan Pickford to thank for that,” he said.

“He made a string of fine saves, including a few out of the very top drawer. A brilliant performance.

“Everton were tested to their max against Fulham, but they came away with a point after some excellent defensive work.

Tarkowski and Coady were terrific together. James has always been a good defender and I think playing with Coady brings the best out in him.”

Colossal

The fact that Tarkowski isn’t part of the conversation for the England squad for the World Cup is criminal considering his form this season.

The centre-back joined on a free transfer and has been nearly faultless at Goodison Park so far, and has formed a tremendous partnership with Conor Coady and Pickford behind them.

As for Pickford, we all knew of his quality a long time ago but it was about becoming consistent and reliable on a regular basis and that is something he has added to his game over the last 18 months or so.

Everton would be in a far worse position this season without either of the two of them, and they all deserve credit for big performances and leadership qualities that have pulled Everton away from a relegation scrap.

It’s great to see them getting the credit they deserve from the widespread media and hopefully they can carry it on into the new year too.
