Everton must make Salomon Rondon decision to allow for Nicolas Jackson January arrival

Salomon Rondon’s time at Everton has surely come to an end and the club must move heaven and earth to move the 33-year-old on in the January window.

The Mirror reported (1 October) that Rondon had turned down the chance to move to Sharjah FC in the UAE, to instead fight for his place at Goodison Park. The Venezuelan striker sees his current deal at the club come to a close in the summer of 2023, and the Toffees must now make an effort to move him on in January.

Daily Mail report that a number of sides, including Everton, are tracking Villarreal winger Nicolas Jackson and if Rondon departs, the 21-year-old would be an exciting and versatile replacement. With his contract up next summer, a cut-price January move could be an option for the Toffees to get ahead of the competition, who will be looking to do a free transfer in the summer.

Getting Rondon off the books would give Frank Lampard and Kevin Thelwell room to play with in terms of the wage structure at the club, and could make a move for Jackson more viable. The 21-year-old would certainly be an exciting addition, with the attacker able to play across the front line.

Evertonians will be encouraged to see the club planning well in advance when it comes to their January business, with a busy summer hopefully just the beginning of a larger overhaul of Lampard’s squad. However, who departs could have a vital impact on who joins and moves to Merseyside in the upcoming window.

Getting Rondon off the books has to be one of Thelwell’s top priorities.
