Bad news for Ruben Vinagre as Everton contact agent of Inter Milan left back Robin Gosens
It’s been a slow start to life at Everton for Ruben Vinagre after his summer loan move from Sporting Lisbon, and it appears things could be about to get harder.
The versatile left-back has played a grand total of 24 minutes of Premier League football in the 2022/23 season and hasn’t featured since the Toffees’ 1-1 away draw against Brentford. Since then the 23-year-old has been an unused substitute seven times and has recently been left out of Frank Lampard’s last two matchday squads. Things aren’t exactly working out.
Everton do have the option to buy the Portuguese defender next summer but after their latest transfer interest, it seems unlikely they will exercise it. FCinterNews report (3 November) that Everton have “knocked on the door” of Robin Gosens’ agent, with the Toffees “looking for a left back”.

The Inter Milan full-back can operate along the left flank and is certainly a more experienced option compared to what Lampard currently has at his disposal. If the Everton boss makes a move for Gosens, it clearly shows he is not content with his left-back options with Vitaliy Mykolenko first choice at present.
If a move for Gosens does materialise, it would seem extremely unlikely for the Toffees to make Vinagre’s move permanent in the summer. It appears he was signed purely as cover, and right now Lampard doesn’t even trust the former Wolves man to be that.

Gosens would be a top-quality piece of work from Everton, with the German international able to operate in a more advanced role and comes with bundles of experience. It’s important for the Toffees to continue to try and unearth younger players who can develop, but the odd experienced head in the group is an absolute must for Lampard.
