Dominic Calvert-Lewin ‘desperate’ to make Everton impact – Phil Thompson
Former Liverpool icon Phil Thompson has backed Dominic Calvert-Lewin to finally come good for Everton when they host Leicester City.
The England international has returned to the side after a long injury layoff but is yet to properly stamp his mark on the side with just one goal all season so far.
But Thompson can see how much he wants to not only play well in a win but score himself and he is backing the 25-year-old to do just that against the Foxes.

“I’m going to go for Everton to Win,” Thompson said to Paddy Power. “I just think Dominic Calvert-Lewin, coming back into the side and scoring lately, I think he will be absolutely desperate to put in some performances with that World Cup squad coming soon.
“He’ll be trying his hardest not just to play well but to be on the scoresheet.”
Matter of time
With just five Premier League games under his belt this season, Calvert-Lewin was always going to take some time to get into the swing of things again having spent so long on the physio’s bench injured.

But everybody knows how good he can be when he is at his best and the more he plays, the closer he will get to that level again and it will therefore only be a matter of time before he does break that duck and the floodgates will open.
Having Neal Maupay snapping at his heels should be good fuel for him to find that sweet spot as soon as possible because he knows Frank Lampard does not need to persist with him if things aren’t working.
Everton fans will have to hope that Thompson is right and Calvert-Lewin can start to bang in the goals at a regularity he has done previously with the sky the limit if he can manage it.
