Leon Osman shares Farhad Moshiri verdict amid Everton takeover speculation
Leon Osman believes “you can’t say anything negative” about Farhad Moshiri’s investment into Everton during his time at Goodison Park.
The Liverpool Echo revealed (21 October) that a full takeover was still on the cards at Goodison after an unnamed group held talks with a global bank over possible investment into the club.
With Moshiri’s time at the club potentially reaching a conclusion, Osman found it hard to criticise the amount of money he’s invested during his tenure.

“I don’t think you can say anything negative about Farhad Moshiri in regards to that because he came and invested,” said Osman (Liverpool Echo, 4 November).
“Yes, we are looking now thinking the money may not have been spent as well as it could have been with regards to bringing in the right type of player.
“That part isn’t his job. That part is people in different parts of the club, so that will have been frustrating for him when he looks back.”
Smarter decisions
Osman is right, it’s hard to knock the amount of money Moshiri has invested into Everton during his time at the club, with around £600million spent on new players since his arrival on Merseyside.
What’s frustrating is if that money was spent a little more wisely, the Toffees could well be a consistent top-six club by now. Instead, Everton were teetering on the edge of relegation and financial ruin at the end of the 2021/22 campaign. The appointment of Kevin Thelwell as director of football should steady the ship, with sensible long-term decisions already being made.

With a sustainable model behind the scenes in terms of recruitment and the academy, the Toffees could be in a good place for when their new stadium is completed.
There are clearly a lot of interested parties, and when the stadium is finished it would not be a surprise to see Moshiri relinquish his stake in the club. There has been a fresh approach when it comes to football operations this year and that should potentially extend to the boardroom as well.
