Sky Sports pundit wants to see Everton unleash Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Neal Maupay together
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Neal Maupay teaming up with Dominic Calvert-Lewin up front for Everton could be “really good” this season, according to Kevin Campbell.
The former Brighton forward arrived late in the transfer window to fill the gaping hole up front, with the England international out injured and Salomon Rondon unfavoured, but with the number nine now fit the Frenchman has seen his involvement drop considerably.
Sky Sports pundit Campbell doesn’t think that needs to be an issue, and would like to see the two central strikers team up this season, which he expects Frank Lampard has already got plans for.

He exclusively told Goodison News: “I think it depends on how the team go because I wouldn’t mind seeing Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Maupay at the top of the pitch.
“At times maybe that means Everton have to alter their system and at the moment Frank Lampard’s got them pretty solid.
“So I think he doesn’t need to do that at the moment. I’m sure he’ll have had this discussion with Neal Maupay, and you never know as the season progresses.
“Obviously World Cup is coming up, once it starts moving on and Everton get a lot more points and a bit better as a team then I think you might see Lampard change it to play two up front.
“Because firepower-wise, Neal Maupay getting on the end of some of Calvert-Lewin’s knock-downs I think could be really good.”

The classic big man-little man partnership is rarely seen these days but tactics in football goes in cycles so it is bound to come back into fashion before long.
Calvert-Lewin and Maupay could be the ideal candidates to bring it back, with the Englishman a strong target man but with much more to his game, and the summer signing is the kind of tenacious smaller forward who can scrap for second balls.
Lampard has settled on a 4-3-3 formation so far this season, but with the goalless draw at Fulham last week producing a toothless performance in attack there is certainly scope to change things up.
