Sky Sports pundit warns Everton over transfer mistake as scouts dispatched for Caio Henrique

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell does not believe that Everton should be chasing Monaco left-back Caio Henrique considering what they already have at the club.

Esporte reported on 28 October that the Toffees had sent scouts to watch the 25-year-old Brazilian recently, alongside Brighton and Nottingham Forest.

But Sky Sports pundit Campbell doesn’t want to see the pathway blocked for youngsters such as his namesake Elijah Campbell, when they already have loan signing Ruben Vinagre in place to back up Vitalii Mykolenko.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News he said: “Everton already signed a back-up left-back, and they’ve got a good young left-back coming up in the reserves.

“Another left-back? If you’re going to do that I don’t want too many bodies there to block the youngster, because if you’ve got a good youngster get him involved.

“I believe he’s training with them as well, so I think it’s important to get the youngster involved.

“Vinagre fair enough, they needed someone with experience there, but if you’ve got a youngster in the background, get him involved.”

Everton

Everton currently seem to have a glut of options in defensive and midfield areas, allowing for extensive injuries, but a relative death in attack.

Mykolenko has proven pretty durable so far, since becoming a regular starter later on last season, and Vinagre hasn’t been called upon often.

Unless Frank Lampard is looking for someone to come in above the Ukrainian then working more consistently on the youngster could make sense.

However, with Vinagre only a temporary addition, should Mykolenko go down with injury after the Portuguese has left that would leave the squad short, so for the right price perhaps it is a sensible thing to do to consider the Ligue 1 man.
