Everton pursuit of Inter wide man Robin Gosens baffles Sky Sports pundit
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Vitalii Mykolenko has been “outstanding” for Everton this season so going after Robin Gosens doesn’t make sense to Kevin Campbell.
The Inter man is out of favour at San Siro and just missed out on the Germany squad for the World Cup after starring in their Euro 2020 campaign, with FC Inter News claiming on 2 November that the Toffees are after a new left-back and had been in touch with the 28-year-old’s agent.
With Ruben Vinagre signed on loan this season to back up Ukrainian international Mykolenko, Sky Sports pundit Campbell is baffled by the the decision to bring in the Portuguese if the club want other people still.

When asked about pursuing Gosens he exclusively told Goodison News: “I think Mykolenko’s been outstanding.
“Vinagre obviously is back-up. So what do you need another left-back for? I don’t really know.
“I don’t understand that one.
“I’m sure a lot of these clubs are in for good players and you need squad depth and so on, but what’s the point of bringing Vinagre in if you’re not going to give him the opportunities?”

Vinagre has hardly lit up the place since his arrival from Sporting with less than half an hour of action in the league, and after he was part of the dismal 4-1 Carabao Cup defeat at Bournemouth last week (8 November) that avenue to get on the pitch has now gone.
On current evidence it would have to be assumed that the Toffees are not minded to spend the reported £17million it would cost to make his loan deal permanent [90min, 27 July], so there will be space for cover next season.
Gosens is an excellent attacking wing-back on his day but has fallen down the pecking order with Inter and hasn’t completed 90 minutes in Serie A all season, so Everton may be looking to capitalise on the situation and secure a cut-price deal.
