Fabrizio Romano shares latest Everton transfer update on Rodrigo Becao

Everton are currently not in talks to sign Udinese defender Rodrigo Becao in the January window, as reported by Fabrizio Romano on Caught Offside.

The Toffees were heavily interested in signing the Brazilian during the summer transfer window, but at the moment no talks have taken place, as shared by The Guardian journalist.

Arsenal and Tottenham have been linked with a move as well, but it appears that the interest from the Toffees have died down.

Tutto Udinese reported on 15 November that the Toffees are ready to spend around £13m to sign the 26-year-old, with the player eyeing a move away from the club in January.

“Everton were interested in signing Udinese defender Rodrigo Becao during the summer, but have since cooled their interest. There are no talks ongoing now between Udinese and any other club,” wrote Romano.

“Despite what you might be hearing elsewhere, there are currently no talks between Arsenal or Tottenham and Udinese for Rodrigo Becao. What I can tell you is that he was an option for Everton last summer, but it’s gone quiet now – there are no talks ongoing with Udinese.”

Unlikely

The Toffees are unlikely to sign a new defender in the January transfer window despite reports coming out of Italy.

The club could sell the likes of Yerry Mina and Micheal Keane, but they still have loads of options for the rest of the season.

The likes of Conor Coady and James Tarkowski have forged a strong partnership at the heart of defence, while Frank Lampard can rely on Mason Holgate and Ben Godfrey as well.

Godfrey is set to return to action after the World Cup, and the Toffees boss will have adequate options for the second half of the season.

What Everton badly need is a striker and that’s where the priority lies at the moment. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is out injured, and the club desperately need to bolster their forward department in January.

The 26-year-old has made just nine appearances for the Italian club in the Serie A so far, and it appears that the Toffees have lost their interest in the player.
