Asmir Begovic makes bold prediction on Everton defender Nathan Patterson

Asmir Begovic has showered heaps of praise on Everton teammate Nathan Patterson, saying he could be one of the best right-backs in the world in the future.

Everton will face Celtic in a friendly match in Australia and Patterson could be fired up for this game, considering his past connection with Glasgow Rangers.

The Toffees goalkeeper added that the 21-year-old, who joined in the January transfer window for around £16m signed by Rafa Benitez, has got “huge potential”.

“I’m sure Nathan will want to win the game for sure. We all know his connections to the blue side of Glasgow,” said Begovic, as quoted by The Daily Record.

“Nathan is a young lad with huge potential. He’s got a lot in front of him in his career. He can be one of the best right-backs around. He’s settled in really well here, he’s a great lad and great character. He will do well, I’m sure.”

Talent

Patterson is a fantastic young talent and there can be no doubt about that.

He was already a class act at Rangers but he needed to move as James Tavernier was blocking his progress.  The youngster is already a regular member of the Scotland national team, and Everton have high hopes for him.

It took him time to settle down at Goodison Park, and the injury he picked up last season didn’t help. He came back strongly in the pre-season and got the opportunity in the absence of Seamus Coleman.

He was simply outstanding in the opening seven games, earning rave reviews from fans and pundits. His performance against Liverpool was especially highlighted when he kept Luis Diaz quiet throughout the game.

Despite his obvious talent, there are plenty of room for him to improve. For instance, he must look to get more goals and assists to his name and make significant contributions offensively that can help the club win more matches.

Another frustrating thing is that he has picked up a bad habit of picking up freakish injuries. At his age, he should be playing at a stretch, but recurrent injuries do hamper the momentum.
