Everton talks with Manchester United defender Luke Shaw despite Vitalii Mykolenko weird – Sky pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Luke Shaw doesn’t make sense for Everton to chase when Vitalii Mykolenko has been “quality” and the defence solid, according to Kevin Campbell.

The Toffees have been in ongoing communication with the Manchester United defender since the summer, with Frank Lampard “hugely keen” on him, according to FootballTransfers.com on 8 November.

But Campbell, a Sky Sports pundit, doesn’t get it as he feels the Ukrainian has been one of the plus points so far this season, and those at the back are not currently the problem.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, he said: “I’ll be honest, I can’t see it because I think Mykolenko’s been quality.

“So the chances of bringing Luke Shaw in, I just don’t see it myself.

“Mykolenko has adapted to the Premier League fantastically, he’s been one of the shining lights.

“I think the back four, or the back five, are ok. So the link with Luke Shaw, I just don’t see it.”

Everton

Everton are increasingly being linked with reinforcements at the left-back position, which given the pressing need to strengthen in attack is unexpected.

On paper Shaw might be considered an upgrade on Mykolenko, but the Toffees defender is by no means a weakness in the current side, and the wages that the Old Trafford man would require could surely be better spent on attacking help.

His injury record is another red flag, with the United hierarchy already debating whether to take the risk on an extension for that reason, and Everton certainly don’t need more high-priced and injury prone players when they have enough of their own.
