Everton talent Tom Cannon shares Instagram post after dramatic U-21 win

Everton teenager Tom Cannon has shared a brilliant post on Instagram after the Under-21 side secured a dramatic victory against Mansfield Town in the Papa John’s Trophy on Wednesday (30 November) night.

The Toffees started the game badly and conceded an early goal within five minutes. Paul Tait’s side came back strongly but looked set to fall short.

However, two late strikes from Liam Higgins and Cannon secured a dramatic turnaround for the U-21 side.

“Last minute winners”, Cannon wrote on Instagram.

Tait said after the game that Cannon was “frustrated” as he didn’t get a load of chances. But he will be very happy after playing a vital role in netting the winner.

“He’s done that all season. He was a bit frustrated tonight, he didn’t get a load of chances, but he keeps going because of his character and because of the type of kid he is, and he wins the game for us,” said Tait, as quoted by evertonfc.com.

Bright future

Cannon is one of the bright young talents at the club academy and has already played for the senior side.

He made his senior debut in the EFL Cup clash against Bournemouth where he came on as a substitute in the final ten minutes. It wasn’t a memorable experience for him as the Toffees lost 4-1.

Frank Lampard was heavily impressed with the youngster and gave him his Premier League debut against the same opponent four days later (12 November), a game the Toffees lost 3-0.

The Toffees boss will be thrilled with the youngster’s latest performance as he keeps on impressing everyone.

Everton

Lampard has shown in his short managerial career that he is willing to give chances to young talents. He did a terrific job in nurturing young talents at Chelsea and can do the same at Goodison Park.

Everton are expected to sign a new striker in the January transfer window, especially with Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury remaining a big headache, and it will be interesting to see how Cannon develops at the club.

He can expect to feature in more games after the World Cup break which will do a world of good to his confidence.
