Everton target Nuno Espirito Santo and Roberto Martinez as Frank Lampard pressure mounts

Everton could turn to two former Premier League managers if they choose to sack Frank Lampard after the restart, according to Dean Jones.

The former Eurosport journalist believes that previous Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is one boss that Farhad Moshiri would be willing to try and bring to Goodison Park if a change of manager is what he desires.

Al Ittihad manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who previously managed Wolves to a European campaign, is the other name that interests Moshiri but he is currently unwilling to sack Lampard after he kept the club in the Premier League last season.

“In the background, of course, they’re having to consider who else they would turn to,” Jones said to Give Me Sport.

“I have heard that Martinez is one that they would be willing to consider, but I’ve also heard that Nuno is one that they like and he is certainly someone that they might be looking to explore next.”

In theory, both of these managers have been more successful in their careers than Lampard has been but that doesn’t mean that axing the former England international is the right call.

Lampard has plenty of room to grow as a coach and a manager and if the Toffees are willing to be patient with him then they could really reap the rewards down the line.

The problem for Moshiri, though, is that he can’t afford Everton to be relegated this season with a £500million stadium to pay for so if it looks like the Championship beckons for the Toffees, then he has to pull the trigger and sack him.

Of the two options available, Martinez has the best track record of keeping a team in the league having done so year after year with Wigan Athletic but he has not managed a club since leaving Goodison in 2016.

Espirito Santo has seen Premier League football more recently but his style will bore everybody on Merseyside.
