Ellis Simms wows Sky Sports pundit after Everton loanee’s ‘brilliant’ moment for Sunderland
Everton loanee Ellis Simms was back in the goals for Sunderland on Saturday (3 December) and Lee Hendrie was amazed by him.
The 21-year-old completed the scoring in a 3-0 rout as the Championship returned with just one game after the World Cup break.
Simms also assisted the game’s opening goal, scored by Manchester United loanee Amad Diallo, as Millwall struggled to contain Tony Mowbray’s rampant Black Cats.

“It’s just brilliant,” Hendrie said [Sky Sports Football, 3 December, 02:25pm]. “He was a bit fortunate here, they don’t deal with the bounce and it all seems very routine.
“But, he’s still got an awful lot to do Ellis Simms, Long comes out and commits himself and the ball skids off the turf so it ends up looking plain and simple for him.
“It’s brilliant because he just has that nouse that the ball could potentially come his way and it did.”
Exceptional
He was excellent at Hearts last season and now he has become a star at the Stadium of Light too so it surely is only a matter of time before he breaks through at Goodison Park.

Frank Lampard had the option to keep him at Everton for this season and have him compete with Dominic Calvert-Lewin for the number nine spot but he chose to send him out yet again.
Calvert-Lewin’s rapid injury maybe made him regret that decision and forced him to sign Neal Maupay too but he could not go back on his decision in the end.
To see Simms scoring so freely in the Championship will be a hugely encouraging statistic for Lampard though who could do with another goal-scoring option in his armoury.
He could easily fire Sunderland to promotion back to the Premier League if he can find his best form and then Everton will almost be forced into playing him regularly because there will be a lot of clubs keen to sign him if they don’t.
