Sale of ‘outstanding’ Andre Gomes could provide Farhad Moshiri much-needed boost at Everton
Farhad Moshiri is facing huge pressure to deliver success or leave Everton, and an injection of cash from the sale of Andre Gomes could help his case.
The business decisions around Everton have been woeful since 2016 – when Moshiri took over Everton as the majority shareholder.

Transfer decisions have been poor, managerial appointments have been shambolic and the overall direction of the club has confusingly chopped and changed.
It’s resulted in a fractured squad made by a plethora of managers with different visions and philosophies. As a result, a number of stars who were brought in to save the club have ended up being annoying deadwood.
Dele Alli finds himself collecting Everton wages in Turkey after his £40million move, James Rodriguez’s stay proved to be a mess and Moise Kean has hardly kicked a ball for the Toffees despite now being in his third season at the club. Another player that looked bound to join the list of Moshiri failures was Gomes – who fell out of favour under Lampard and jetted off to Lille on loan this season.
But the news coming from France is that Gomes is actually thriving in Ligue Un and could be part of a permanent deal soon.

According to French outlet Le Lillois: “André Gomes is an almost indisputable holder in the plans of [Paulo] Fonseca. Outstanding recuperator, picky passer, he combines his qualities with Benjamin André or Angel Gomes,”
“He is the perfect relay between the defenders and the Lille attack. It will be difficult to buy him at the end of his loan, everything is possible.”
It’d be surprising if Lampard welcomed Gomes back to Goodison Park after pushing him out on loan this season, but a permanent sale could certainly benefit Everton.
Gomes cost the Toffees £22million, so if the board were able to break even or maybe pick up a profit from the Portuguese midfielder then it’d actually represent a rare bit of smart business.
Moshiri doesn’t have many transfer stories to gloat about during his time in Merseyside, but picking up a profit from Gomes after the deal looked set to go down as another failure would at least give him a small boost amid the mounting pressure over his ownership.
