Darijo Srna shares transfer update on Everton and Arsenal target Mykhaylo Mudryk
Shakhtar director of football Darijo Srna admits that Everton and Arsenal target Mykhaylo Mudryk is up for sale in January for a lot of money.
He has gone on record to claim that the club rejected a summer bid from the Toffees, but they’re now understood to be looking for twice what the offer was.
The Ukrainian wants to go to Arsenal and has recently likened himself to Luka Modric, playing down comparisons to PSG star Neymar.
CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs wrote on Twitter, “Shakhtar director of football Darijo Srna tells me any club wanting Mykhaylo Mudryk must spend ‘a lot, a lot, a lot of money.’ Shakhtar are saying publicly they want €100m. But, as previously reported, sources say privately they will entertain offers of €60m+.
“That’s double Everton’s offer last summer. #EFC and Brentford were the two Premier League clubs most advanced and intent on signing Mudryk back then. Arsenal made enquiries but never bid. Now they are seriously focused on a formal offer.
“Mudryk himself is flattered by the comparisons and praise. But tells me: ‘I am not the Ukrainian Neymar. I don’t like that nickname. I am the Ukrainian Modric. He [Srna] sees how hard I work every day. I just want to keep improving and in winter we’ll see’.”
Too expensive
Mudryk appears to be flirting with Arsenal each time he speaks and it makes sense not to pursue his services for Everton.
He would’ve been a good signing in the summer, but it’s clear that he does not really fancy a move to Goodison Park and it’s pointless to pursue it any longer.
It’s best if the Toffees now look elsewhere and sign attacking players capable of playing in multiple positions and actually keen on joining.
Blackburn Rovers’ Ben Brereton Diaz comes to mind and he’ll be a fantastic acquisition given how well he’s fared in the EFL over the last season and a half.
Everton have been admirers of the Chile international for a while now and could look to make their move in January once and for all.
They even made a last-minute call on transfer deadline day in the summer to secure his services, but it was in vain with Blackburn unwilling to do a deal.
