Everton have ‘strongest’ interest in ‘absolute star’ Mohammed Kudus after shining at Qatar World Cup
Everton have the “strongest” Premier League interest in Ajax and Ghana attacker Mohammed Kudus, according to African football journalist Gary Al-Smith.
David Ornstein has recently suggested (The Athletic, 12 December) that the Toffees remain “keen” on the 20-year-old, after coming close to signing him in the summer.
Al-Smith, who writes for The Guardian, has suggested Kudus is an “absolute star” and that Everton represent the Premier League club who are showing the most interest.
“For Ghana, the absolute star of this World Cup has been Mohammed Kudus and we know that three Premier League clubs are interested, with Everton being one of the strongest,” said Al-Smith on Sky Sports News (Sky Sports video clip, 15 December).
Not going away
Everton’s move for Kudus doesn’t seem to be going away, with the 22-year-old seemingly very much on the agenda for Frank Lampard. He was superb for Ghana in Qatar and would be an impressive addition if he could be signed.
It appeared his move to Goodison Park was all but over after the summer saga. His performances for Ajax in the Champions League had many talking about a potential move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

However, the Everton speculation still remains and it’s interesting to hear that the Toffees are the Premier League club with the strongest interest in the attacker.
With his contract up in the summer of 2025, it will take a sizable bid to test Ajax’s resolve. A striker has to be the priority for Lampard in the January window with Neal Maupay struggling form and Dominic Calvert-Lewin yet again plagued by injuries.
Landing Kudus would certainly be a statement of intent from the board.
