Journalist details Everton chances of deal for Watford attacker Ismaila Sarr

Frank Lampard is “definitely” interested in Watford winger Ismaila Sarr although the 24-year-old could be looking to sign for a bigger club than Everton, according to Simon Phillips.

The Mirror (15 December, page 58) report that the Toffees are weighing up a £35million bid for the Senegalese international.

However, Phillips, who has been published in Chelsea-News and is also the host of the TalkChelsea podcast, was less than convinced about their chances of landing the Watford man.

Everton

“I don’t think he’s reached his full potential yet, but he’s definitely got something about him, and he could reach that potential,” said Phillips (GIVEMESPORT, 15 December).

“I don’t know whether he would go to a club like Everton, though, I think he would probably set his sights a little bit higher than that. But it’d be interesting to see if anything develops there. But Lampard has definitely got an interest in him.”

Unlikely

It’s quite hard to envisage Everton spending £35million on a player who is currently playing in the Championship. We all know he’s a good attacker, but this does feel similar to the previous transfer issues the club have had in the past.

Sarr certainly deserves a shot back in the Premier League, but Watford will have to lower their asking price if he wishes to fulfil that dream. From Lampard’s perspective, he desperately needs to add more to his attack, with his side lacking goals in the first half of the season.

Everton

The Toffees have been good defensively, however, when they do concede more than one goal, it’s an extremely tough task for Lampard’s side to salvage anything. Looking to land another striker has to be the priority with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Neal Maupay both out of form at the moment.

Failure to do so could see Everton staring down the barrel of another relegation battle come the end of the season.
