Sky Sports pundit tells Everton to abandon Roberto Martinez interest amid Frank Lampard speculation
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Everton “shouldn’t be looking at new managers” and should ignore Roberto Martinez having already been down that road once, says Kevin Campbell.
The Spaniard presided over a fairly disastrous World Cup campaign with Belgium and is now available, with Farhad Moshiri having kept tabs on his situation heading into the tournament as speculation swirls around the future of Frank Lampard.
But Sky Sports pundit Campbell is adamant that the current manager needs to be backed instead of looking for a replacement.

He exclusively told Goodison News: “I think Frank Lampard’s in possession of the manager role and he should be backed.
“Everton have been down the Martinez route and, good manager that he is, it never worked out for him at Goodison.
“Everton shouldn’t be looking at new managers, they should be looking to build.
“They’ve got to build a foundation, and Frank Lampard hasn’t even had a chance to do anything really at the club.
“So let him build something, because at the moment it’s not even his team.”

Martinez’s showing in Qatar should put an end to Moshiri’s odd obsession with him, having fired him after taking ownership of Everton before pushing to reappoint him last January before securing Lampard.
The Toffees’ poor form heading into the World Cup break has brought renewed doubts over the former Chelsea man’s long-term future, with former Eurosport journalist Dean Jones telling GIVEMESPORT on 30 November that Martinez and Nuno Espirito Santo were both potential replacements.
And now with Gareth Southgate considering his position as England boss there are suggestions that Lampard could be in the frame as his successor [Daily Mail, 12 December], but for either reason Campbell isn’t moved.
