Everton could line up with Muhammad Kudus alongside Amadou Onana and Alex Iwobi in midfield
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Mohammed Kudus could line up alongside Amadou Onana and Alex Iwobi in a new-look Everton midfield, believes Kevin Campbell.
The Ghana star has been a key Toffees target since the summer where he came close to a move before it was blocked on the Ajax end, and David Ornstein of The Athletic reported on 12 December that the Premier League is still his priority, but he wants to play in midfield.
Despite Frank Lampard’s midfield three being settled with Onana and Iwobi joining Idrissa Gana Gueye, former captain Campbell believes the senior man could drop out to accommodate a headline signing like the 22-year-old.

He exclusively told Goodison News: “I don’t really see him being a replacement for Iwobi. I think Iwobi’s probably been the outstanding performer, the most consistent.
“You could put Onana as the holding one more and have Kudus and Iwobi as the more attacking players.
“It’s a squad game anyway so where he wants to play and where he’s going to end up playing is up to the manager.
“Once you’re in the building, as long as you’re on the team sheet that’s all that matters.”

Based on some of the goals he’s scored in the Champions League this season, coupled with the Toffees’ difficulties finding the net, it might seem counter-intuitive to move Kudus further from goal.
But if that’s what it takes to make the summer move a reality then it is a decision worth making, as he looks like exactly the sort of player that this side is missing.
The midfield is functional, despite Iwobi’s underrated creativity, but Lampard of all people would surely love more of a goal threat from the trio he puts out and Kudus could be the answer to that if the club can find the money to get this done.
