Sky Sports pundit tips Tom Cannon to score Everton goals this season before loan move
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Tom Cannon probably does have a loan move away from Everton in his future but not until after this season, according to Kevin Campbell.
Having made his first team debut just before the World Cup break, and impressed during the tour of Australia, the Liverpool Echo’s Joe Thomas claimed on 13 December that the teenager is almost certain to be in the squad for the Wolves clash on Boxing Day, but is thought to be attracting loan interest for January.
Sky Sports pundit and former Toffees striker Campbell isn’t ready to see Cannon leave the club just yet, with Frank Lampard badly needing help in the goalscoring department, and thinks the youngster can provide some this year.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News he said: “It depends what the manager wants to do. If the manager wants him around the first team to get a feel for it, that’s fine.
“Or sometimes going on loan in January gets him league football, and that’s important as well.
“If he’s made such a big impression, Everton aren’t blessed with players who score a lot, he might be somebody who Frank Lampard could turn to off the bench to get a goal in games.
“I’m all for players learning their trade but going away from the club when you might be important to the club right now, maybe the loan might come next season.”

The January transfer window will be instructive for Cannon’s future, as two first-team attacking signings that the club are hoping for could block his route to first team minutes.
But with 11 goals for the under-21s this year already, he has to be near the top of the list of current options to step in right now, given Neal Maupay has only found the net once since he arrived.
Anthony Gordon emerged from a difficult situation to become a star last year, and the circumstances look to be lined up for Cannon to possibly do the same this season.
