Everton dodge bullet as Arsenal target Matheus Cunha set to join Wolves in January transfer window

Everton not signing Matheus Cunha from Atletico Madrid is certainly a blessing in disguise for them with him now heading to Wolves.

The Brazil attacker was linked with a move to both Arsenal and Leeds United as well but neither will get their hands on him.

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that he’s on his way to Molineux for a staggering fee that could rise to £43.7million.

He took to Twitter to write, “Matheus Cunha to Wolves, here we go! Full verbal agreement reached between clubs with Atléti and also on personal terms. It’s a loan with obligation to buy clause, around €40/50m. Medicals being scheduled while all the documents will be prepared in the next days.”

According to 90Min, Atletico were desperate to offload the Brazil striker and the Toffees were among the clubs queueing up to secure his services.

It was also understood that Frank Lampard was keen on signing him, but seeing the money he’s going for will make him realise that it was a bullet he dodged.

He’s not even a prolific goal scorer which is something Lampard would want from a striker if the club are shelling out such big money for him.

In 11 league games this season, he is yet to break the deadlock and while he may be good technically, what Everton want is for someone to put the ball into the back of the net.

We’re hoping that they sign a proven goal scorer like Ben Brereton Diaz who won’t be as expensive and can supplement Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the attack.
