Everton blunder spotted in Portugal newspaper as transfer news drops

Portuguese newspaper A Bola have made an embarrassing blunder after describing Everton as a “London club” while reporting on the situation of Ruben Vinagre.

The left-back joined the Toffees in the summer transfer window on loan but he has struggled for regular games at Goodison Park.

Everton will need to pay a fee of around £17.6m to sign the 23-year-old permanently, but they are unlikely to do so.

“But, so far, the Portuguese left-back has only been present in four games for the London club (two in the Premier League and as many in the English League Cup), totaling just 204 minutes,” wrote A Bola.

Everton are not a “London club”, but they are based in Merseyside, as we all know. It is an embarrassing mistake from the newspaper.

The Toffees were lacking in depth at their left-back areas, and they signed Vinagre who has previous experience playing in the Premier League.

Considering his versatility and his age, it looked like a cracking piece of business when he joined.

However, after making just four appearances in all competitions, it looked very clear that Vinagre is not in Frank Lampard’s first-team plans.

Everton are heavily reliant on Vitaliy Mykolenko who has made 15 starts in the Premier League so far. He has been absolutely outstanding this season, and Vinagre has found it really difficult to dislodge him from the starting role.

It remains to be seen whether the Toffees will sign a new left-back, even on loan, if Vinagre leaves the club.

From Vinagre’s point of view, it makes sense for him to move elsewhere and play regularly. The move simply didn’t work for all the parties involved.
