Everton-linked striker Matheus Cunha may have his head turned by better offers

Everton are looking to bolster their forward ranks in the January transfer window but they could miss out on Matheus Cunha, according to Simon Mullock.

The Sunday People journalist (25 December, page 46) reported that the Toffees are have been linked with a string of potential forward-thinking recruits, with Cunha being one of them.

However, the Brazilian striker may have his “head turned by better offers”, with Wolves reportedly leading the race to sign him in the January window.

“Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus was a target in the summer, but the club were reluctant to sell,” wrote Mullock.

“Watford’s Ismaila Sarr is a target – but the Hornets want to return to the Premier League. And Atletico Madrid’s Matheus Cunha may have his head turned by better offers.”

No chance

The Toffees have no chance of signing Cunha in the January transfer window, as he is probably heading to join Wolves.

Frank Lampard needs to sign a new striker in winter, and he is running out of options.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on December 17 reported that the Toffees were one of the clubs interested in signing Cunha.

To be honest, it’s a lucky escape for the Toffees. Cunha is out of form and he is overrated.

Everton

He is not amongst goals at the moment, and there’s no point paying a huge fee for him.

As per Sky Sports (21 December), Wolves have agreed a loan deal for Atletico Madrid and Brazil striker Matheus Cunha, with an obligation to buy for around £34m.

The forward hasn’t been in great form since joining Atletico Madrid and it would have been a massive gamble for Everton had they signed him.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has once again struggled with injuries while summer signing Neal Maupay has proved to be a major flop as well.
