Jeff Stelling reacts live on Sky Sports as Everton suffer heartbreaking late Wolves defeat
Jeff Stelling reacted live on Sky Sports as Everton fell to a damaging last-minute defeat to Wolves at Goodison Park after being ahead.
Despite taking an early lead through Yerry Mina, the Toffees were pegged back by Daniel Podence midway through the first half after sloppy defending at a corner.
Frank Lampard’s side created enough chances to win the game but looked to be playing out a frustrating 1-1 draw, until they were hit on the break and conceded a heartbreaking winner in the 95th minute, and Stelling believes the club are in big trouble.
Speaking live on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday immediately after the final whistle (26 December, 4.54pm) he said: “Wolves win away from home for the first time this season. Wolves score two goals away from home for the first time this season. Wolves get off the bottom of the table.
“But the alarm bells are ringing and ringing loud at Goodison.”
Nightmare
Failing to take three points from a position of superiority in this game would have been a disappointing result for Everton, but to lose late on is a terrible outcome.
The club have had weeks to stew over the miserable form they went into the World Cup break in, so a visit of the Premier League’s bottom side felt like a major opportunity to arrest that slide.
Scoring an early goal looked to be the perfect start before familiar frustrations in attack saw chances go begging, but a point would have been better than nothing.

Questions have been asked about Lampard’s job security over the past six weeks and, fairly or not, they will only increase after losing this game in such a way.
Everton were hit on the break in the last minute, in a way that could barely be more painful for the watching fans, but the game should have been won long before.
The visitors hadn’t offered any threat for a long time, and the first-half chances that Neal Maupay and Anthony Gordon should have done better with should have taken the sting out of the embattled visitors.
There are big questions to be answered and with a trip to Manchester City next up on New Year’s Eve it could be about to get worse before it has a chance to get better.
