Everton in hunt for Viktor Gyokeres as £16m transfer news emerges
Coventry City could be willing to sell Everton transfer target Viktor Gyokeres for £16million as the Toffees join the race for the Swedish striker, according to 90min.
TalkSPORT had revealed (via Twitter, 28 December) the Toffees, along with Brentford and Wolves were all interested in the 24-year-old Sweden striker, with Coventry wanting over £20million for his services.
However, it’s since been suggested (90min, 28 December) that Coventry are actually asking for a fee in the region of £16million for Gyokeres.

It’s also believed Leeds United and Crystal Palace are also vying for the 24-year-old as the race for his signature really heats up.
Get him
This is exactly the type of player the Toffees should be looking to land in the January window. Gyokeres is in-form, scoring goals for fun, and is at an age where he can still improve should he make the move to Goodison Park. He hasn’t played in the Premier League before, but there’s every chance that he could go on and hit the back of the net in the Premier League.
Furthermore, £16million is actually a relatively reasonable fee in today’s market, particularly for a player who is currently the top-scorer in the Championship. A striker has to be the top priority for the Toffees heading into the January window.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has yet again been plagued by injuries which has had an impact on his form. Neal Maupay has also had issues with his form since moving to Goodison Park. Gyokeres is certainly in better form than the Toffees’ current striking options.
Even if Everton don’t get a deal over the line for the Swede, it’s good to see the club already linked with a forward before the January window opens.
