Everton want to sign £20m Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres, Wolves keen too
Everton are interested in signing Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres, who is valued at as much as £20 million, according to talkSPORT.
The Toffees are looking to add depth to their paper-thin attacking reserves in the January transfer window, with Dominic Calvert Lewin struggling to remain fit so far this season and Neal Maupay failing to hit the ground running since his summer transfer.
Gyokeres, 24, has been in flying form for the Sky Blues this season, netting 12 goals from 23 appearances and is currently the joint-top scorer in the Championship.

Everton’s interest in the forward was broken by TalkSPORT (Wednesday 28 December), who tweeted: “BREAKING: Wolves, Brentford and Everton are all interested in signing Coventry striker Viktor Gyokeres. Coventry value Gyokeres at as much as £20m.”
Great option
Frank Lampard’s need for goals in the January transfer window has now reached a critical state following his side’s 2-1 defeat to Wolves on Boxing Day. The crushing loss left the Toffees just a point above the relegation zone, with a trip to Manchester City awaiting the team on New Year’s Eve.
Goals are like Goldust to Lampard, so a move for the Championship’s top-scorer does make sense.
With Ben Brereton Diaz unlikely to be prised from Blackburn Rovers, Gyokeres seems the perfect alternative. He has proved he is a potent goalscorer, having scored 17 goals last term and carrying on in the same vein this season.
Whether the £20 million pricetag is justified is still a burning question, but the club will need to dig deep to get a proven goalscorer into the club in the winter window. Gyokeres could well be worth the punt, given the dire predicament Everton finds themselves in, and it could well prove a masterstroke.
